Phillies @ Dodgers May 31, 2026: Yamamoto starts as Dodgers look to take the series from Philly, Jack Dreyer returns to the bullpen

The Dodgers (37-21) felt a bit of a ball don’t lie situation last night, as a seventh inning insurance run where Andy Pages missed home plate was promptly erased as Tanner Scott reverted to 2025 Tanner Scott for the eighth inning. Scott got ahead 0-2 on four of the six batters he faced, but two of those led to singles and a third led to a game-winning two-run homer by Edmundo Sosa for a 4-3 Phillies loss. Today, Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets the ball against Andrew Painter in the rubber match.

Ryan Ward gets his first start at Dodger Stadium and first start in left today, batting seventh. Dalton Rushing starts behind the plate hitting eighth, and Alex Freeland bats ninth.

The Dodgers also get a bullpen piece back, as Jack Dreyer returns after a minimal IL stint. Paul Gervase was optioned.

Dreyer last pitched May 15 against the Angels, so the Dodgers were able to backdate his IL stint and have him return to the pen today. Gervase hasn’t pitched since May 22 and has been relegated to a bit of a multi-inning mop-up role in his short time in the Majors this season.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM PT and will be on SportsNet LA.

I've been writing about the Dodgers since I graduated from Long Beach State, where I covered the Dirtbags in my senior year. I'm either very good or very bad at puns.
