Dodgers Prospect Notes: Davalan dominates, Zazueta impresses at AA, Sirota starts new streak, Quintero’s absurd run, rehabs & promotions galore, more

Hitter of the Week

Charles Davalan, aka Chuck D, saw his production drop in June. With a .698 OPS last month, there was reasonable cause for a little concern. Now he’s having the best month of his young career.

Davalan is currently on a six game streak with at least two hits, capping off last week with a three-hit effort. During that stretch, he batted .500 with three doubles, a triple and three home runs. His 16 homers on the season indicate he has more power than anticipated, including his shot on Sunday which left the stadium.

Normally, a player like Davalan would be challenged with a promotion to close out the season. The issue is the amount of outfield talent ahead of him. With full outfields in Double-A and Triple-A, he likely remains a Loon for the rest of 2026.

Pitcher of the Week

Tulsa’s matchup on Saturday featured two of the best right-handed pitchers in the minor leagues. Arkansas had Ryan Sloan on the mound and the Drillers answered with Christian Zazueta. While Sloan was slightly better on the day, Zazueta was still able to show why he’s one of the top young arms in the system.

Zazueta allowed a run on two hits over four innings, with one being a solo home run. He also issued a walk, just his second since his promotion to Double-A. He struck out seven and saw his ERA with Tulsa rise to 2.14. Since being promoted, Zazueta is rocking a 34:2 strikeout to walk ratio.

It’s rare to see a pitcher pushed to a league where he’s younger than league average by three years and actually improve. His 42% K rate is ridiculous, especially given the fact that he’s barely walking anyone. He has allowed four homers in 21 innings, but that’s really the only blemish on an otherwise pristine stat line.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The bats were relatively cold for the Comets this week. Zach Ehrhard batted .286 with three walks. James Tibbs III hit just .125 and has seen his OPS dip to .702 in July. Hyeseong Kim struggled with the bat but continues to shine with the glove.

Minor League veteran Matt Gorski had a strong showing, hitting .364 with a double and a home run. Jack Suwinski added his 20th homer.

Kiké Hernández had a strong week, batting .375 with a double and his first homer of his rehab assignment.

On the mound, Blake Snell made his second rehab start in his current recovery from elbow surgery. He pitched 2 ⅔ innings, striking out three and allowing a run on two hits. 

Edwin Diaz made three appearances, totaling an inning and a third with four strikeouts. He’s set to rejoin the club this week.

New addition Seth Halvorsen, recovering from a shoulder injury, made two appearances and struck out a batter in his second appearance while sitting at 100 mph with his fastball.

Jackson Ferris had another encouraging start, scattering five hits and surrendering just one run over 5 ⅓ innings. His ERA in July is 4.43, down from 9.35 in June.

Double-A Tulsa

Another relatively quiet week, this time for the Drillers who were nearly no-hit/perfecto’d on Friday. Sam Mongelli saved Tulsa from embarrassment with a two-out infield single in the 9th, spoiling the bid.

Mike Sirota had a strong week, batting .421 with a triple and five walks. After seeing his previous on-base streak end at 72 games, his new streak has reached six.

Josue De Paula also tripled last week, but had just four hits and a pair of walks. He did manage to steal a couple bases, giving him 27 on the year.

Speaking of stolen bases, Kendall George stole three and now has 36 on the season. Zyhir Hope also swiped a bag and doubled in an otherwise uneventful week.

Adam Serwinowski surrendered six runs in as many innings but did strike out nine, one shy of his season high. Patrick Copen allowed a pair of runs in four innings but, most importantly, didn’t issue a single walk. Aidan Foeller made his Double-A debut but it was forgettable, allowing four runs (0 earned) in two innings.

High-A Great Lakes

Eduardo Quintero continues to terrorize the Midwest League, hitting .375 last week with an absurd seven walks compared to just two strikeouts. He also stole a pair of bases, tripled and collected his 9th home run of the season. Since May 1st, he’s slashing .338/.466/.559.

Emil Morales had a strong week as well, batting .421 with a double and a homer, as well as walking four times. The 19-year-old has a dozen homers in 49 games with the Loons, proving he’s one of the best power hitters in the system.

Speaking of power, Logan Wagner added a pair of longballs last week, giving him 15 on the year. He hit .364 with three doubles and even stole a base.

On the mound, Sterling Patick pitched twice, allowing four runs over 7 ⅔ innings with 10 Ks. He’s now up to 80 on the season in 74 innings. 

Isaac Ayon added a quality start on Wednesday, going 6 ⅔ giving up a pair of runs and striking out six.

Brady Smith debuted for the Loons and struggled, giving up seven runs in four innings.

Low-A Ontario

Easton Shelton continues to dominate the Cal League, smashing another three home runs last week to give him 31 on the year, second in minor league baseball.

Kellon Lindsey added a pair of homers, walked seven times and stole a base. He’s been very productive when he’s been in the lineup.

Aidan West debuted for the Tower Buzzers and picked up where he left off in rookie ball, batting .412 on the week with a stolen base.

Jaron Elkins went 8 for 24 with a double, a triple and five stolen bases. Mairoshendrick Martinus added two doubles, two homers and a steal.

On the bump, Will Gagnon got off to a great start on Tuesday, pitching six scoreless with 10 Ks. He struggled in relief on Sunday, allowing four runs in 2 ⅔ innings.

Jack O’Connor, last year’s 8th rounder, made his A-ball debut on Sunday and pitched a pair of scoreless frames with three strikeouts. Hyun-Seok Jang struck out seven, but surrendered four runs in five innings.


Luis Gamez, a 19-year-old righty, also debuted for Ontario. He pitched two perfect innings, then got shellacked in his third, giving up a grand slam.

Rookie Leagues

The Arizona Complex League Dodgers concluded their season last week. Abel Lorenzo hit .462 in his final four games with a double and a home run. Lefty Luke Fox, who missed about three months after injuring himself in a start for Tulsa, made a rehab start in the ACL and struck out all three batters he faced.

In the DSL, Helvin Mendoza went 4 for 12 with a pair of doubles. Antoni Urena went 8 for 14 with two doubles and a home run. Fran-Jean Haseth was 3 for 10 with a double.
