After finally winning a game yesterday, the Dodgers went back to the struggle bus today, with Justin Wrobleski continuing to struggle and the offense being unable to sustain a rally. That led to a wasted pen effort of 4.2 perfect innings from the pen in a 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Justin Wrobleski was looking for improvement and … well, he didn’t get it.
He started with a lead-off walk, got two outs, then gave up a two-run shot to Ketel Marte to make it 2-0 D-backs.

A walk and a single followed after that, though he managed to stop the bleeding for that inning.
Just that inning, though, as the 2nd started with a double and then a sacrifice was bunted back to him, but he threw wide of first for an error to score a run and put a runner on second with nobody out. 3-0.

Two groundouts followed, the latter of which was a great play by Tommy Edman to get the runner at home.

However, Wrobo couldn’t make it worthwhile as he allowed a double to Gabriel Moreno to make it 4-0 before the 2nd ended.

Not great!
He did get through a scoreless 3rd with just a two-out single surrendered, but a walk and infield single started the 4th, and Dave Roberts came with the hook following a strikeout. Shortest start of the year for him: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R (3 ER), 3 BB, 3 K, 76 Pitches.
Edgardo Henriquez then got the final two batters of the 4th, Evan Phillips got a clean 5th, and Kyle Hurt got a clean 6th. Jonathan Hernandez then took over in the 7th and continued the roll with a clean frame,
Meanwhile, Eduardo Rodriguez set a season-high in strikeouts against the struggling Dodgers offense, which while pathetic, didn’t mean they didn’t score at all at least.
After the first seven batters were retired, Enrique Hernandez and Ben Rortvedt singled back-to-back in the 3rd with one down, and Andy Pages cashed in a run with a two-out double to make it 4-1. That was all for that rally, though.

Rodriguez gave up just a one-out walk in the 4th and a lead-off walk in the 5th to keep things rolling. Then after a Freddie Freeman single started the 6th, he got a pair of outs to put him on the verge of escape, but Kyle Tucker ripped a triple down the line in right to make it 4-2. That’s where the rally ended as they continued to struggle putting a crooked number together.

The D-backs continued to let Rodriguez roll past 110 pitches and he got a 1-2-3 frame in the 7th, because hey, why fear this lineup?
The 8th was given to Taylor Clarke, who saw lead-off single immediately erased by an almost predictable double play, which allowed him to get a nine-pitch inning. Swell!
Kevin Ginkel then got a 1-2-3 9th because sure.

The Dodgers will now return home for seven games, starting with a three-game series against the Royals, starting at 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET. It’ll be Tarik Skubal making his home debut with the Dodgers up against Noah Cameron.
