The Dodgers (73-48) finished off a sweep last night with a 4-2 win over Kansas City. Eric Lauer bounced back from with 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball, throwing a season-high (for all Dodger pitchers) 112 pitches to help save the overused bullpen. Landon Knack took down the final 2 2/3 innings and Mookie Betts, Hunter Feduccia and Shohei Ohtani all homered for a third consecutive win. It almost ended on an extremely sour note, as Freddie Freeman absolutely ate shit falling into the Royal dugout (but clearly he’s ok, he’s in the lineup today).
Today they start a big four game series with Milwaukee. The Brewers (74-47) are a game up on the Dodgers for the top record in the NL, but got swept in San Diego to start this week and only put up seven runs in the three games. The Dodgers took two of three in Milwaukee back in May and outscored the Brewers 17-9, with 11 of those runs coming in the middle game of the series.

Roki Sasaki and his big ass glove gets the start tonight. Sasaki’s been excellent since the All-Star break, giving up five earned runs (one unearned) in 24 innings over four starts with 26 strikeouts and seven walks. Sasaki got a tough luck no-decision last time out in Arizona, allowing two runs on four hits in six solid innings. He was in line for the loss as the Dodgers were shut down by Merrill Kelly but they took the lead in the eighth, which set up Edwin Diaz for his first of two blown saves in Arizona. Sasaki got the win in Milwaukee back in May in that 11-run outburst game. He gave up three runs in the first (one unearned after he made a throwing error), but got through five with no more damage done.
Rookie Shane Drohan starts for the Brewers. Drohan’s pitched in 23 games this season in both starting and relief roles and has a 3.87 ERA/3.34 FIP in 93 innings. Drohan moved into the rotation on June 1 and has been mostly solid, with a 4.39 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings. He’s coming off a rough start against the Twins where he allowed six runs on nine hits and two homers in only five innings. He faced the Dodgers twice in relief back in May and gave up runs in both outings. He gave up the lone run in a 5-1 Brewer win on May 22 but it was unearned after a Luis Rengifo error put Teoscar Hernandez on to lead off the inning. He came in in the series finale which the Dodgers won 5-1, and he allowed two runs on two hits in three innings. Brandon Sproat started that game and failed to get an out in the fifth after giving up a single and a walk to start the inning. Drohan came in and immediately gave up a triple and an Andy Pages homer for two runs on Sproat’s line and two runs on his own line. He didn’t allow another baserunner over his three innings after the Pages homer.
Betts sits today with Miguel Rojas starting at short. Enrique Hernandez starts at third and Ben Rortvedt starts behind the plate.

Jonathan Hernandez is back after being DFA’d Monday. He’s back on the active roster, with Knack getting optioned.
