A (very) abbreviated primer on the Dodgers option and qualifying offer decisions for 2027

(Via @Dodgers)

Hello and welcome to the pedantic portion of the offseason content machine, as today we go over the contract option and qualifying offers decisions for the Dodgers. I’m sure there will be heated debate soon.

I’ll accept your thanks in advance for doing this, because you, a confused and clueless fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, must feel so grateful to me, a vigilant blogger that knows the ins and outs of all the contracts and details associated with the team. After all, I alone can educate you on the intricacies of the sport, starting with none other than the complicated nature of the team’s decisions on contract options and qualifying offers for 2027.

Contract Options (0)

  • None Exist

Wow, what exhaustive work that was. Dustin, slacker that he is, didn’t even mention these in the 40-man reset, but I’m glad to have clarified for you all. Please feel free to send me tips for my service.

Qualifying Offers (0)

Okay, seriously though, the Dodgers have nine pending free agents, but Miguel Rojas notably retired, and Tarik Skubal, Kris Bubic, and Eric Lauer aren’t eligible for a qualifying offer due to their midseason trades (the latter two weren’t getting one anyway). Now, knowing that in advance, did I use Skubal’s picture as the Featured Image for this post anyway to draw attention? Yes. Did I also use it to trick people into clicking through just because I knew they might want to comment “ah ah ah, he’s not even eligible”? Absolutely.

Anyway, that leaves the five names listed above. As much as I love some of those guys, this year’s qualifying offer is worth $23.15 million, and any of them would probably be thrilled to get that much of a guarantee even on multi-year deals. There’s not really a decision to make here either.

The deadline for teams to decide on both contract options and qualifying offers is five days after the end of the World Series, not that it likely matters for the Dodgers.

Glad you stuck with me as I navigated through these gut-wrenching decisions.
