Giants 4, Dodgers 1: Elieser Hernandez & Eduardo Salazar turn in solid outings to help save the pen

Logan Webb against Elieser Hernandez went about as expected, granted with a solid performance from Elieser, but the Giants managed to avoid a Dodgers sweep in the end by a 4-1 score.

A lazy recap because … well, the Dodgers didn’t care much either

======

The only reason I’m even bothering to write anything is to highlight Elieser’s quality start and Eduardo Salazar‘s relief appearance.

Elieser gave up a single and a homer in the 3rd and was a strike away from giving up just that in six innings. However, a double with two strikes and two outs in the 6th led to another run before he completed his outing. Still, he looked solid in a spot start and hopefully somebody picks him up: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 91 Pitches.

Meanwhile, Salazar completed the saving of the pen. In the 7th he gave up a couple singles and a walk, but a double play helped him keep the Giants off the board. He should’ve got a scoreless 8th as well, but he got screwed on a walk and then a passed ball advanced the runner to second, which later scored on a two-out single.

Sucks, but glad they got their showcases at least.

As more and more arms are used as truly fungible by teams, the least you can hope for is they get a chance to shine and get a shot elsewhere if not the Dodgers.

Hunter Wendelstedt was on one today.

29-16, meh.

Anyway, the Dodgers will now head home for a four-game series against the Reds. It’ll start at the usual time of 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET with Tyler Glasnow facing a pitcher to be determined, but potentially Nick Martinez.
