After a day off to travel back West, the Dodgers settled in for a three-game series against the rival Giants, which are always eventful matchups no matter the records.
Despite the Giants running out their ace against a depth starter for the Dodgers, it was mostly a pitchers’ duel early. Unfortunately, it was the Giants who got the last blow in a 5-3 walk-off loss.
======
Both Landon Knack and Logan Webb kept the offenses scoreless through four frames, and there weren’t many chances either. The Dodgers managed to get a minor two-out threat in the 2nd due to a single and a walk, while the Giants got a two-out triple in the 2nd and a two-out double in the 4th.
The 5th saw the Dodgers break through first against Webb, as a Miguel Rojas single was followed by a Gavin Lux double to score him. A wild pitch advanced Lux to third, and after a strikeout of Cavan Biggio and an intentional walk of Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith came through with a single to make it 2-0. However, Freddie Freeman grounded into a double play to kill that rally.
The Giants also managed to get a run back against Knack in the other half of the 5th, as Luis Matos homered to cut things to 2-1.
After that, Knack got two outs but also allowed two singles, and that led Dave Roberts to turn to Anthony Banda for the final out.
Knack was excellent tonight, as he has been all season.
Daniel Hudson was up next out of the pen, and things started shakily when Freddie clanged a grounder to start, which immediately came into play when Matt Chapman hit a no-doubt shot to left to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.
Ryan Yarbrough took over in the 7th and managed to get two scoreless frames (barely in the 8th) to keep things to a one-run game.
After Webb kept the Dodgers off the board in the 6th and 7th, he was done for the game. While the 8th was quiet, the 9th started off with a bang thanks to an Andy Pages “triple” to center off a Heliot Ramos misplay, which resulted in a tie game when Jason Heyward lifted a sac fly to tie things up at 3-3.

That left things to Blake Treinen in the 9th, who issued a walk then gave up a two-run homer to Brett Wisely for a walk-off. Not great.
