D-backs 3, Dodgers 0: Win streak snapped as bats get 3-hit

Things were going too well during the four-game winning streak, and it was back to reality today as the bats were quieted again by the Diamondbacks with some help from umpire Phil Cuzzi as the Dodgers were shutout in a 3-0 loss.

Last four games were too good, back to reminding us what baseball is all about: suffering.

Since returning from the IL, Blake Snell has had a sub-2 ERA, but today was his first blip. Early on he was doing his usual thing, as after a one-out walk in the 1st, there was a wild pitch and stolen base with two outs, but nothing to worry about. He rebounded with a seven-pitch 2nd, and then worked around a two-out walk and wild pitch in the 3rd.

The 4th was eventful, as it started with a Teoscar Hernandez sliding catch that was ruled a double at first before being reversed.

A single followed, but after a strikeout to put him on the verge, Blaze Alexander turned on a fastball for a two-run homer to put the D-backs up 2-0.

Snell rebounded in the 5th by giving up just a two-out walk, but in the 6th, a lead-off double was cashed in by a one-out single to make it 3-0 and knock Snell out.

He mostly looked fine, perhaps the command was a bit off, but just a start that happens: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 8 K, 86 Pitches.

Ben Casparius entered and immediately issued a walk to put a pair on, but then got the next two batters. He then continued in the 7th, getting one out but issuing another walk, leading to Anthony Banda relieving him. Banda made things uneventful by getting the final two outs, though the deficit remained.

To close the book on the D-backs, Kirby Yates had to throw 22 pitches in the 8th but did get a 1-2-3 frame. Jack Dreyer then got a clean 9th in 1-2-3 fashion.

None of the runs would’ve been that bad if Zac Gallen wasn’t partially turning back the clock and partially taking advantage of Phil Cuzzi’s gigantic strike zone.

Whatever the case, the Dodgers didn’t get a runner to past first base through five innings, scattering a pair of walks and an infield single.

The 6th seemed like a breakthrough since it was their first real chance, as a Mookie Betts double made something of a rally, and Freddie Freeman walked to bring the tying run to the plate. As that tying run, Will Smith gave the ball a jolt to the track in left, but just missed a homer.

That started the D-backs pen, who surrendered just a two-out single in the 7th, followed with a clean 8th, and closed with another.

A boring affair, honestly.
