An ugly NLCS continued for the Dodgers, who dropped Game 3 by a 6-2 score to push their season to the brink tonight. Blake Snell bounced back from a rough NLDS start, giving up only one run on two hits and a walk through six innings. Jackson Chourio hit his first pitch into the seats for an early Brewer lead, which they kept into the sixth. The Dodgers loaded the bases off Abner Uribe for Will Smith, who finally got his big hit with a two-run double. The momentum didn’t last long as Dave Roberts decided to use Josue De Paula as a decoy, announcing him as a pinch-hitter to get a lefty in the game and then getting Enrique Hernandez into the game. Kiké and Tommy Edman struck out to end that threat, and Snell stayed in for the seventh. He issued a leadoff walk to set up Jake Bauers for another long annoying AB that ended in a go-ahead Milwaukee homer. Garrett Mitchell followed it up with another homer to chase Snell, and the Brewers added a couple runs off Justin Wrobleski to really put the game out of reach. There’s sort of a beautiful irony of a team’s season ending due to leaving Snell in for TOO long, but now the Dodgers are down 3-0 and a loss away from the end of their season.

Tyler Glasnow gets the start looking to extend the season for the Dodgers. Like Snell, he struggled a bit in his NLDS start against Atlanta despite only giving up one run and one hit. He gave up a small balled first inning run after a Michael Harris II leadoff single, stolen base, groundout and wild pitch. He walked five batters over the next 3 2/3 innings including a four-pitch walk to Ronald Acuna Jr. with two outs in the fifth to end his night, but Alex Vesia got him out of the jam. His final line was 4 2/3 innings with one hit, one run, five walks and five strikeouts on 78 pitches. As was the case with Snell, he’ll need to be a lot better tonight to navigate this Brewer lineup. Glasnow hit the IL a few weeks before the Dodgers’ first series with Milwaukee this season and came back a week after they played again, but he faced them in back-to-back starts last June in his first two starts off an IL stint. The Dodgers lost both games but Glasnow was good, giving up one run in each start. He gave up two hits and three walks over five innings with one unearned run allowed in his start on June 9 in Milwaukee and followed that up with six innings of one-run, four-hit ball in LA on June 18. He also faced the Brewers in the NLCS last season and gave up a run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and three walks.
The Brewers didn’t really have a set starter for today, but rookie Shane Drohan gets the start. He made 19 starts and 14 relief appearances this season and posted a 4.19 ERA/3.73 FIP in 124 2/3 innings with 125 strikeouts and 44 walks. He was significantly better in relief this season, posting a 1.47 ERA in 30 2/3 relief innings and a 5.07 ERA in 94 innings as a starter. He faced the Dodgers twice in Milwaukee as a reliever back in May and had very different outings. In his first outing, he gave up an unearned run on one hit and two walks in 1 1/3 innings but needed 39 pitches to record those four outs. He pitched two days later and got through three innings on 40 pitches, but gave up two runs on two hits including a homer to Andy Pages. He started in LA on August 13 and gave up three runs on three hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.
Drohan hasn’t pitched since September 27 and he hasn’t thrown more than 50 pitches in a game in a month, so he probably won’t go too deep in this one. Robert Gasser got through five innings yesterday so Milwaukee only used three arms. Uribe has pitched in each of their playoff games and really struggled last night, so who knows if he’ll be available today. DL Hall took down 2 1/3 innings last night and Trevor MeGill needed 18 pitches to get four outs.
The top of the Dodger lineup looks exactly how it was supposed to in the Spring. Shohei Ohtani returns to the leadoff spot and Smith returns to the cleanup spot. Miguel Rojas gets the start at second and Kiké starts at third over Edman and Max Muncy. The Brewers go with the same lineup they used against Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 2, with Christian Yelich DHing and Sal Frelick and David Hamilton starting over Luis Lara and Joey Ortiz.
