Dodgers 6, Rockies 1: Hits, Hits Everywhere

After having his string of four straight quality starts snapped in his last outing, Hyun Jin Ryu came back strong today for the Dodgers with six innings of three-hit, one-run ball, allowing only a single walk to go along with six strikeouts. To back Ryu, the relief corps of Brandon League (#Brando), J.P. Howell, Brian Wilson, and Jamey Wright combined for three innings of scoreless, one-hit ball. The Rockies finished the game with just four hits and one baserunner, with their only run coming on a solo shot off Ryu in the fourth inning.

But the offense was the story, as they totaled 15 hits and three walks, which led to the six runs. Dee Gordon starred (against a lefty!) going 4-for-4 with a triple and a walk, and the trio of Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, and A.J. Ellis all had multi-hit games.

Dee was helped out by Charlie Blackmon, who did this for the first run of the game:

Oh yeah, Kemp also had two RBIs, which means now he has found the #Passion, #Grit, and #Determination needed to play winning baseball. What? You mean his BABIP is over .400 the last two weeks and he kept his hands inside the ball today to stop fouling everything off his front leg? Nah, it’s intangibles.

It wasn’t all great, though, as even though Puig had three hits, he did seem to aggravate his hip yet again while going insane on a dive:

Hoping it doesn’t continue to affect him, but I get the feeling he might need rest at some point.

-A.J. Ellis, despite just getting over the Mendoza Line today, has an OBP of .408 now, which is why he’s a welcome addition back to the lineup. Also, he doesn’t lead the league in passed balls.

–Carlos Triunfel got his first hit since Sep. 22 of last year.
