Dodgers 3, Rockies 2: Missed You, Juan Uribe

Zack Greinke: still the best. I say that even though he ran into some trouble in the eighth inning, allowing Justin Morneau to triple in the tying run, because Greinke came into Coors and was really better than any pitcher at this stupid park had any business being. Over the first seven innings, only two Rockies even reached second, although one of those was a run-scoring double by Josh Rutledge in the bottom of the fifth. (Though Greinke wasn’t helped there by the fact that D.J. LeMahieu was already on second, thanks to a Yasiel Puig error.) Greinke sailed through most of the game until that eighth inning issue, and even then, he got Troy Tulowitzki to pop out and Nolan Arenado to strike out to end the threat.

Of course, these are the Dodgers, and they made the non-descript Franklin Morales look pretty good for most of that same time… everyone except Juan Uribe, that is. Uribe had half of the team’s six hits, including the biggest one of the night, a ninth inning single past LeMahieu to score Matt Kemp and put the Dodgers up 3-2. (And kudos to Kemp for drawing a leadoff walk against LaTroy Hawkins to even be in that situation, of course.)

Hanley Ramirez didn’t manage to put himself in traction, so far as we know, though he did look bad on a first-inning “single.” Erisbel Arruebarrena came on in the eighth to offer defensive support. It’s almost unbelievable how different the two look on defense.

The Dodgers are all alone in first place. Clayton Kershaw is on the mound tomorrow. Life is good.
