Dodgers 9, Dbacks 5: Much-needed offense showed up

It’s always great when Matt Kemp hits a home run, and he did so in the first inning of the Dodgers’ 9-5 win on Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.

The game was never really in doubt, as the dodgers used a 6-run fourth inning to blow the game open. Five Dodgers had two or more hits, including Kemp’s 2-for-4 and Justin Turner‘s 2-for-4 and 2 RBIs. The offense needed to show up because Roberto Hernandez took the hill and was shaky. He still turned in a quality start (6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), but that’s pretty much how all his starts are going to be. I think Daniel put it best:

For my complaining earlier, this start by Fausto wasn’t a complete disaster. Was just frequently teetering on the edge of one.

The bullpen allowed two runs (one charged to Brandon League, one to Pedro Baez), but the Dbacks never really had a good look at the game — or, you know, the usual.

Unfortunately, the Rockies were thoroughly dominated by Madison Bumgarner (1-hitter, 13 strikeouts), so the Dodgers (75-58) couldn’t add to their 5-game NL West lead. Clayton Kershaw (15-3, 1.82 ERA) takes on Wade Miley (7-9, 4.29) on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Pacific time.
