On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I close out 2014 by looking at the minimal amount of news in Dodger land over the last couple weeks.
The Dodgers are going to sign Brett Anderson to a 1-year, $10 million deal. If you doubt this, I direct you to Twitter avatar and this tweet.
Finally…“@BillShaikin: Also, #Dodgers expected to announce long-awaited Brett Anderson signing next week: http://t.co/bpngZY0ZHr”
— Brett Anderson (@_BAnderson30_) December 27, 2014
Oh, and we talk a little about former Dodger and alleged game-fixer Chin-hui Tsao, whose signing would be funny and perplexing. Chad is prepping a post in case it actually does become official. But back to Anderson: expect the announcement to come this week (it may already be official by the time you listen to this episode).
We also talk about the Dodgers’ somewhat surprising decision to designate Brian Wilson for assignment. There’s no chance the previous regime (Ned Colletti) would have done this, so it’s refreshing to see the new front office recognize a sunk cost when it sees it. Don’t get too comfortable, Andre Ethier.
Finally, we close with a Q&A session, with a lot of folks wondering if the Dodgers are going to add another starting pitcher as insurance for Anderson/Brandon McCarthy or one of the big remaining names (Max Scherzer, James Shields).
