On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I get excited as Opening Day is just six days away.
The Dodgers signed two Cuban players since our last episode — Hector Olivera and Pablo Millan Fernandez. We were a little “meh,” on the Olivera signing and not overly excited for Fernandez (not that there’s a lot of reason to be excited), but talent is talent. Especially in Olivera’s case, who figures to make an impact at some point this season and in years to come.
Hyun-jin Ryu has shoulder issues, which isn’t new. Brandon League has shoulder issues, which should keep him out for a couple months. This opens up some spots for pitchers competition for Opening Day spots on the roster, such as David Huff, Sergio Santos and Joe Wieland. We’ll see what the Dodgers end up doing.
The offense is pretty much set, unless the Dodgers decide to keep an extra position player instead of an eighth pitcher — which sounds possible.
Finally, we close with a Q&A session. Lots of good questions. Please keep them coming.
