The Dodgers bullpen did well today, surrendering just a single run in five innings of work. Unfortunately, the reason behind those five innings of work was that starter Carlos Frias surrendered 10 runs on two walks and 12 hits (two homers) in just four innings of work. Much of the early damage came thanks to Justin Upton, who hit a grand slam in the first inning and then followed with a two-run double in the second.
So for all intents and purposes, the game was over early, especially since the Dodgers didn’t manage more than one single and one walk through six innings off James Shields. However, they did break through in the seventh inning, loading the bases before Andre Ethier grounded into a double play, which scored a run. Alex Guerrero then followed with a two-run homer, which hopefully ends his 3-for-22 skid, especially since he played a routine grounder into an infield single today in the ninth.
What else? Oh right, Austin Barnes got the start at catcher and collected his first MLB hit. And the Dodgers lost another challenge, making them 3-for-14.
Honestly, most of this afternoon was just spent waiting for the game to end.
