Today’s pitching matchup, for those who are actually watching the game today (worth noting that the game is on Fox with no blackouts in LA), is one of the best we’ve seen so far this season. Zack Greinke is facing Matt Harvey. Harvey hasn’t quite been who he was before Tommy John surgery in 2013 (K%-BB% this year is 20%, in 2013 it was 23%), but he’s still close and he’s still great. Greinke, of course, has been outstanding. It’s almost a shame that this game is on a holiday, because a matchup like this deserves more attention than it probably will get (exhibit A: this short game thread).
Alberto Callaspo is starting at third today, giving Justin Turner his customary day off. Yasmani Grandal moves up in the lineup to take Turner’s place, which is fun.
It sounds like Carlos Frias might miss his next start. He’s dealing with back tightness and apparently it is still an issue. It’s actually pretty hard to say who will replace him if he can’t go. Joe Wieland is on the disabled list in AAA, and Scott Baker just joined him. Zach Lee is still on the mend from his circulation issue and probably isn’t ready yet. It’s too soon for Brandon Beachy to return to the majors. So, who’s left? Trevor Cahill? Ian Thomas? Bullpen game? It probably won’t be pretty, whatever it is.
Apparently the Dodgers are going to be wearing these atrocities today:
