Corey Seager is making his MLB debut tonight. He’s batting eighth and giving Jimmy Rollins a much-needed night off. I thought this debut wouldn’t come until next year, but now that it’s here, I’m excited.

If there are any doubts about Seager’s ability to play shortstop at the next level (and there are), just look who’s playing short for the Padres tonight. “If <insert player’s name> can do it, then <insert other player’s name> can do it,” seems pretty apropos in this case.
Seager will wear No. 5, as the numbers he wore in the minors — Nos. 12, 18 and 22 — are all taken by Juan Nicasio, Jose Peraza and Clayton Kershaw. Maybe next year, slugger. To make room for Seager on the 40-man roster, Andy Wilkins was designated for assignment.
It remains to be seen how long Seager will stick around this month, but it might not be for long.
Just spoke to a source in OKC re: Corey Seager. Said he'll be with team for Padres series and return to OKC unless they absolutely need him.

Seager going back down for the playoffs would depend on the status of Justin Turner and Jose Peraza

It seems Seager will fill both backup shortstop and third base duties until the guys ahead of him on the depth chart (Enrique Hernandez and Peraza) are healthy.
In other non-Seager news, Yimi Garcia is back with the team. That’s good! Andre Ethier‘s knee is swollen after fouling a ball off it last night. That’s not so good.
Also, there’s this:
After 8 successful drafts in CO, honored to join the @Dodgers scouting dept. Taking with me my Rockies roots and many lifelong friendships.
— Alan Matthews (@matthewsmlb) September 3, 2015
This is significant obviously because the Dodgers added another talent-evaluator to the organization, but also because Matthews is a former prospect writer for Baseball America. He’s been with the Rockies for the last eight years. His best draft signing has probably been Mike’s favorite player Charlie Blackmon. Talent!
