Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 152 – Hernandez, Maeda, prospects

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I return to talk about everything that happened in Dodger land over the last week.

The Dodgers took 2-of-3 from the Diamondbacks, and did the same thing against the Giants (even if we didn’t know the result of Sunday night’s game at the time of recording).

Kenta Maeda continues to pitch well. So far, the investment looks really good. But it’s still early. Ross Stripling also followed up his newsworthy first start with a solid second outing. He might be in the rotation for awhile.

Joc Pederson struggled a little this week (before his homer on Sunday night), as did the rest of the offense — except Enrique Hernandez. He had a career-best game on Friday against the Giants and Madison Bumgarner (two home runs and a double). He’s now 10-for-16 with three home runs and four doubles off Bumgarner. That’ll play.

Trevor Oaks had a pretty good week for Rancho Cucamonga. His stuff has ticked up a bit and he could be in line for a promotion to Double-A. Brock Stewart already got that promotion after he had two good starts (0.82 ERA, 25.6 K%, 5.1 BB%).

Julio Urias struggled a little in his second start for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Remember, he’s 19 and facing competition that is, on average, almost eight years older than he is. Jose De Leon and Yaisel Sierra might be getting closer to game action, as they’re both on the 7-day disabled list with OKC (probably more of a procedural move, despite De Leon having a bit of an ankle injury).

Another strong Q&A session closes out the podcast. Please keep the questions coming.
