The Dodgers lost a home run derby to a Mets pitcher, 4-3, which actually makes all the sense in the world if you read Dustin’s article earlier today.
With the loss, the Dodgers fall back to .500 on the year at 17-17 and drop to 6-10 at home.

As has already been said, there wasn’t much to this game besides dingers.
The Dodgers offense managed seven hits and a walk against Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia, so there weren’t a ton of scoring opportunities to be had. However, Corey Seager hit a solo shot in the third inning…
…and Yasmani Grandal followed with a solo shot of his own in the fourth inning.
The problem, of course, was the Syndergaard also hit two homers … and his did more damage. In the third came the solo shot…
…and in the fifth came the three-run dagger after he worked a 2-2 count while trying to bunt.
Maeda labored through 94 pitches in five innings of work, surrendering six hits and two walks while striking out just three. And he could’ve been in a lot more trouble had the bullpen not saved him, since he exited in the sixth having not recorded an out in the frame and leaving runners on second and third.
Chris Hatcher, of all people, entered and saved his bacon. He walked a batter, but induced an infield fly and got two strikeouts to keep the Dodgers within striking distance. Adam Liberatore, whose velocity is still down two ticks, gave up two hits and issued an intentional walk in the next inning, but was saved by Louis Coleman coming in to get a strikeout. Joe Blanton then entered and pitched two scoreless innings and striking out four in a losing affair for whatever damn reason despite being arguably the second-best reliever on the Dodgers.
No matter, though, as it was over from the moment the Mets got more than two runs. The Dodgers did add another run in the ninth off Familia after an Adrian Gonzalez lead-off double, but that’s mainly cause the Mets didn’t care about letting him score.

The Mets and Dodgers play the finale of their four-game series tomorrow at 7:10 PM PST/10:10 PM EST. The matchup should be favorable, with ace Clayton Kershaw on the hill against Bartolo Colon, who is still actually good despite mainly being known for entertainment value.
