The image is only appropriate since the Dodgers stranded a basketball team on base in a 4-2 loss to the Padres tonight. While Julio Urias generally cruised along, the bullpen faltered and the offense stalled again against a lefty starter and a pair of lefty relievers.
It’s a thing.
It took until the fourth inning for either team to get on the board, and thankfully it was the Dodgers that broke the deadlock. With one out, the struggling Enrique Hernandez laced a double down the left-field line, and one batter later Joc Pederson (against a lefty!) singled on a liner into right-center to drive in a run.
Julio Urias is in his age-19 season, and he threw 90 pitches and 5.1 innings of shutout ball tonight. Sure sure, he was charged with two runs on three hits and a walk, but that was on Jesse Chavez. Urias struck out six in his time on the mound and was generally in command the entire game, as he continues to impress.

Not sure if this is his last start this year or not, but … yeah. Nice.
Back to Chavez, he relieved Urias in the sixth after the latter gave up a one-out single and then hit the next batter. While he did induce a grounder to get the second out, he then left a fat fastball right down the middle to Derek Norris, who crushed it off the wall in left for a two-run double and a one-run lead.
Fortunately then, in the bottom of the inning Joc got himself going again, this time bombing a no-doubter to right to tie the game 2-2.
That only lasted until the eighth inning, when Yangervis Solarte led-off the frame against Adam Liberatore with a homer for a 3-2 lead. Liberatore also walked a batter that was later cashed in, and only recorded one out. The walk scored because Louis Coleman got an out but also walked a man, and J.P. Howell gave up an RBI single to make the game 4-2 before getting out of the jam.
Josh Fields pitched a scoreless inning for the Dodgers, but that didn’t matter at that point because while the offense totaled 13 hits (one homer, one double) and a walk, they also left 11 on base and couldn’t come up with a timely hit.
Corey Seager‘s continued struggles after being hit on the wrist are not helping matters.

With the loss, the Dodgers fall to 74-60 overall and 42-27 at home. The Giants also lost, so the Dodgers lead in the NL West remains at 2 games.
Tomorrow night the Dodgers and Padres do the thing again at 3:10 PM HST/6:10 PM PST/9:10 PM EST. The pitching matchup will be oh-god-no-blisters-please Rich Hill (2.09 ERA/2.48 FIP/2.94 DRA Overall, 0.00 ERA/2.18 FIP Dodgers) against Luis Perdomo (5.84 ERA/4.66 FIP/4.04 DRA).
