On this episode of Dugout Blues, Jared and I bring you all the latest and greatest about one of baseball’s best teams (it’s true, look it up).
The Dodgers had a good week, taking two of three from the defending AL Champion Clevelands and sweeping the Reds right out of Cincinnati. The offense, after a slow start to the month, has picked it up.
Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig all had multiple home runs this week. One of Puig’s got him into trouble and even suspended for a game (he’s appealing). It was a joke of a suspension and has a racial undertone to it, but it’s nice to see him hitting well lower in the lineup. Pederson is back and looks more like his 2015 self, while Bellinger continues to be amazing.
Brock Stewart is back after Ross Stripling got demoted to Triple-A. Here’s hoping Stewart is ready to go and that Stripling just needs a week or two to clear his head (he has been knocked around a bit recently).
In the minors, Walker Buehler, after a week off, was back in the Tulsa rotation. He was on the disabled list for an undisclosed injury (i.e., rest). Alex Verdugo is still hitting and finding a bit of power. Julio Urias went on the DL with shoulder soreness which, siiiiiiigh. Even if it’s just for inflammation, it still sucks. The rookie leagues start up this week, so look for some of the newest Dodgers to make their pro debuts.
That leads us into a recap of the draft. Jared hated it, I kinda liked it. I think Jeren Kendall was a steal and has a bright future while Jared hates everything about him. There is upside with some of the arms and a few of the prep players they selected.
We close with a Q&A session. Please keep them coming.
