On this episode of Dugout Blues, Jared and I are feeling good as the Dodgers are playing some incredible baseball.
We’re feeling good despite some bad news. Yes, we’re gonna rip the band-aid off in the beginning of the show. Julio Urias is out for 12-14 months following shoulder surgery. I’ve written many a word about his development and, despite what you might think, I keep my cool and lay out my thoughts.
Also, Corey Seager‘s injured hamstring was foretold in the prophecy of the #TrueDodger. He might miss a few games (or weeks).
Clayton Kershaw had a bad game against the Mets and bounced back when they needed him against the Rockies. All these issues couldn’t keep the Dodgers from winning their 10th consecutive game on Sunday.
The Dodgers are pummeling the ball and, subsequently, their opponents. Cody Bellinger (named NL Player of the Week) hit two more homers on Sunday to give him 24 on the season. He has been in the majors for all of two months. The kid has been incredible.
Justin Turner, Yasiel Puig, Joc Pederson and basically the rest of the offense has been unbelievable during this stretch of 16 of 17 wins. It’s as deep as it has ever been, and it puts a charge into the ball.
Kenley Jansen finally walked a batter (Nolan Arenado). He did so after hitting an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning on Sunday. He did so with a 12-6 lead. Saves are dumb and Jansen shouldn’t have been in the game anymore, but it’s OK.
Brandon Morrow has been downright great so far. He has incredible stuff and might be the next guy in line to get some high-leverage, late-inning work in the Dodger bullpen.
On the farm, Walker Buehler struck out 10 hitters in his most recent outing. Alex Verdugo is knocking on the door of the majors. He hitting better than .340, is hitting for some more pop and is walking more than he’s striking out. Ronny Brito and Starling Heredia made their stateside debuts in the Arizona Rookie League and the Pioneer League also began play this past week. The MiLB season is now in full swing. We also touch on a couple of MLB Draft signing updates, including 4th-rounder James Marinan.
To close, a strong Q&A session. We enjoy the questions, so please keep them coming.
