For the first time in four series this season, the Dodgers (73-31) have a shot at sweeping the Giants (40-65). They’ve already won the series, something they haven’t done against San Francisco since last September. You have to go back even further, to August 31 – September 2 of 2015, to find the last time the Dodgers completed a sweep of their biggest rivals.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (4.17 ERA, 4.89 FIP, 5.15 DRA) gets the ball for the Los Angeles, making his second start post-DL stint. His last time out, he pitched five innings of two-run ball against the Twins. This will be Ryu’s second time facing the Giants this year. In April, he allowed just one run in six innings to SF, but his efforts were for naught, as the Dodgers got shutout.
Madison Bumgarner (3.38 ERA, 3.63 FIP, 3.59 DRA) was not intended to pitch in this series, as Matt Cain was originally slated to start today. However, Bruce Bochy and the Giants made the somewhat last-minute call to start Bumgarner, so as to “keep him on his day.” Bumgarner made four starts this April before hitting the disabled list due to … well … his own idiocy, really, but the official diagnosis was bruised ribs and sprained left shoulder caused by a dirt biking accident. He has made three starts since returning, and has allowed eight runs in 18.1 IP. This will be his first time facing the Dodgers in 2017.
Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal, both of whom started against a lefty yesterday, get the day off against MadBum, with Enrique Hernández and Austin Barnes filling in.
