The end of August wasn’t very good to the Dodgers (92-43), and so far, September has been only marginally better. While they took the first game of the series against the Padres (61-75), they only managed one run, and yesterday, they dropped both games of the day-night doubleheader. Today, the Dodgers’ aim is to not lose their third consecutive series, and they’ll do so behind Alex Wood (2.41 ERA, 2.96 FIP, 3.02 DRA).

Wood last started about two weeks ago in Pittsburgh before hitting the disabled list for the second time this season, once again with left shoulder joint inflammation. Despite having some issues with fatigue, Wood had a solid month of August, allowing a 2.52 ERA across 25 IP in his four starts. He was getting hit a bit harder than he was earlier in the season, though — he allowed a .536 OPS in his first 18 games, and a .752 OPS in those four August starts.
Wood is not on a hard pitch count today, per Dave Roberts.
If it feels like the Dodgers have seen a lot of Jhoulys Chacín (4.03 ERA, 4.53 FIP, 4.55 DRA) this season, it’s because this is the fifth time they’re facing him in 2017. While they beat him up pretty nicely on Opening Day (nine runs in 3.1 IP), he’s been pretty effective against them since, allowing just two earned runs across 15.1 IP.
It was raining at Petco Park earlier today, and there’s a 50 percent chance of showers at first pitch, so we’ll keep an eye on that.

Other than Wood’s recall, there wasn’t too much Dodgers news today, besides this weird, non-committal thing from Roberts on Joc Pederson:
