What Happened In 2017: Longtime Dodgers farmhand finally made his major league debut, playing in seven September games.
——
O’Koyea Dickson was a 12th round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2011 out of Sonoma State University. His best season in the Dodgers organization was in 2016 when he hit .328/.398/.596/.994 with 18 home runs in 101 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
After seven seasons in the minors and 24 home runs with OKC in 2017, Dickson debuted with the Dodgers on September 2 when he was called up during roster expansions.
Timing is everything in life, and Dickson’s unforgettable week commenced with the birth of his son just a few days before his first major league call-up.

Dickson collected one major league hit, against Madison Bumgarner of the Giants, and went 1-for-7 with two walks and two strikeouts in his seven games with the Dodgers. He made his first major league start in left field and played there in five games for L.A. He’s played some first base and third base in the minors, but his lack of a true position ultimately slimmed his chances of sticking around at the major league level, especially in the National League.
Unfortunately, Dickson suffered a left shoulder subluxation shortly after his stint with the Dodgers in September, requiring surgery the following month. After being placed on the 60-day disabled list, Dickson was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, thus removing him from the 40-man roster. This made room for when the Dodgers exercised Logan Forsythe‘s 2018 club option. Dickson subsequently chose to become a minor league free agent.

2018 Status: Looking for some steady playing time, the 27-year-old Dickson signed with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles to play in Japan.
