On this episode of Dugout Blues, Jared and I look back at the trade deadline and the up-and-down week for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers acquired Brian Dozier and John Axford before the non-waiver trade deadline. The cost was extremely minimal for both and one is off to a great start with his new team while the other is not.
The Dodgers took on the Wild Card-leading Brewers and split a 4-game series. They scored 21 runs in a game on Thursday, but those runs were non-existent during the Astros series over the weekend. They salvaged one of the three games after getting shut down by Justin Verlander on Friday and getting embarrassed on Saturday. A 3-4 week doesn’t look great, but it could have been worse.
Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp are banged up. Both could probably benefit from a DL stint, but I’m guessing only Puig will land there. His oblique isn’t 100 percent, while Kemp’s ankle is contused.
Andre Ethier was honored by the Dodgers on Friday night with a retirement ceremony. That was swell.
On the farm, some kids finally got promoted. Jacob Amaya and Miguel Vargas were promoted from Ogden to Great Lakes. Gavin Lux and Dustin May were promoted from Rancho Cucamonga to Tulsa. Will Smith was promoted from Tulsa to Oklahoma City. Lux is off to a hot start, while May and Smith are struggling to adjust so far. Amaya and Vargas are handling themselves well enough.
We end the episode with a solid Q&A. Please keep the questions coming.
