On this episode of Dugout Blues, Jared and I are back after an unplanned hiatus. We’re back just in time to see the Dodgers are just a half-game out of first place … for now.
The Dodgers took 3-of-4 from Arizona last weekend, and we mention it briefly because of the Diamondbacks TV broadcast team. So bad. So mad.
The series in Coors this past weekend was crucial, and the Dodgers ended up taking 2-of-3 from the first-place Rockies. If the team ends up winning the NL West, this could be a big reason why. Jared talks about the second Wild Card spot, and I’m not having any of it.
Kenley Jansen skipped the series because the last time he was there, his heart got out of rhythm. That was definitely the right call. His health comes first, no question. Ross Stripling came back from his sore back and so far, so good.
We missed the Ryan Madson and David Freese trades, so we recapped and gave our thoughts on them. Not division-altering moves by any means, but hopefully guys who can produce just a little bit. Low risk, medium upside plays here.
In the minors, the AZL Dodgers won the Arizona Rookie League championship. The other five affiliates above them all made the playoffs. Only Rancho Cucamonga and Tulsa are left standing. Ogden, Great Lakes and Tulsa were all ousted in the first round. Gavin Lux was named to the MLB Pipeline All-Prospect Team. He had an incredible season (was our org MiLB Player of the Year) and should appear in most Top 100 lists this winter, and even push for a Top 50 ranking on some. I’m more on board the train than Jared is at present.
Since we missed a couple weeks, we had a lot of questions to catch up on, and we did. Thank you and please keep them coming.
