Following a 4-0 loss, the Dodgers responded with a big 8-3 win, led by none other than Hyun-Jin Ryu. A gem by Ryu, and a homer by Cody Bellinger is pretty much the regular these days.
Ryu went seven scoreless innings, allowing only five hits and one walk. That’s 31 consecutive scoreless innings, as Ryu now sits on a 1.52 ERA.
It helps to have a starting staff like the Dodgers do.
The Dodgers started the scoring early with an RBI double by Alex Verdugo in the second inning, and they added another in the third off a Justin Turner RBI single. It was ruled an error by former Dodger Jose Peraza, but to be fair, it was hit 103 MPH.
Bellinger kept doing his thing, hitting his 17th home run of the season, this time to dead center. This was off the left-handed Wandy Peralta, making it Bellinger’s sixth homer off left-handed pitching.
He’s now reached base in all 44 of his starts this season.
In the 8th, Russell Martin hit his second home run of the year, making it 5-0.
In the ninth, it seemed like both sides were trying to mail it in, get the game over with, and avoid the impending rain. I was ready for that too.
Robert Stephenson came in for Cincinnati, and proceeded to load the bases. Joc Pederson scored on a wild pitch, followed by another Verdugo double. 8-0 Dodgers.
Yimi Garcia was tasked with closing it out, and proceeded to give up three runs on four hits and two homers. One of those was to Peraza, and the other was to Derek Dietrich. If he was ever going to regress, doing so with the team up eight is a helpful time to do that.

Joe Kelly hasn’t been good, but at least he’s super likable. The team might need to upgrade the bullpen at the deadline, but Kelly has the dancing part down.

The Dodgers are now 31-17 — a .646 winning percentage and a 105-win pace. If the Diamondbacks lose today, the Dodgers will be up by 5.5 games in the NL West.
The team has tomorrow off, as they travel to Tampa Bay for a two-game series. Clayton Kershaw will be starting on Tuesday against some to be determined pitcher on Tampa Bay.
