The reigning NL MVP had himself a day as the Dodgers picked up a 6-4 win on Sunday against the Pirates.
Cody Bellinger‘s 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning broke the 4-4 stalemate. He added a double and two walks earlier in the contest. Overall, he drove in three runs.
“It feels good to get this one,” Bellinger told the not-Los Angeles Times, as he surely pondered his next entry into the Deep Thoughts series.
Justin Turner and Mookie Betts also contributed two hits, while Joc Pederson launched his seventh home run of the season.
Dodgers’ reliever Caleb Ferguson, who has drawn the ire of many a Dodger fan following this simulation, picked up the win, which raised his record to 2-0. Dovydas Neverauskas — 80-grade name — was tagged with the loss. Kenley Jansen closed the door for Los Angeles, picking up his sixth save of the year.
Clayton Kershaw was … fine. He lasted 7 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, the last of which came off the bat of the hulking Josh Bell in the top of the eighth inning. Kershaw struck out eight Pirates against just one walk.
The Dodgers improve to 13-9 on the season, while the Pirates fall to 10-12. After a day off, David Price gets the call for the Dodgers in Washington. He’ll oppose Joe Ross in the first game of their 6-game road trip.
