The Dodgers appear to be getting revenge for the 2019 NLDS in this early-season series against the Nationals, as they came back twice in today in order to prevail 7-6 and secure the series win.
Gavin Lux starred for the Dodgers, going 3-for-3 with two ding dongs and a walk, providing three RBI and two runs on the night that sent the defending champions to 7-16.
While Lux provided the most production, it was actually Chris Taylor who came up with the biggest blow, stroking a crucial two-run home run in the top of the 8th in his pinch-hit appearance. Dave Roberts is a genius now.
“This team is real focused right now,” said Los Angeles manager Roberts. Well I sure as fuck hope so.
Alex Wood didn’t really have it today, lasting just 56 pitches and four innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits. Unfortunately, neither did his immediate relief Brusdar Graterol, who was wild as hell and walked three in his 1.2 inning stint, surrendering two runs. After the game he was demoted to AAA for Jimmy Nelson, who was being activated off the IL.
Fortunately, Edubray Ramos got out of Graterol’s second inning in the 6th, and then the tandem of Blake Treinen and Kenley Jansen locked down the final three innings in scoreless fashion with Jansen securing his seventh save of the young year.
The Dodgers will go for a sweep of the Nationals tomorrow, but it’ll be another tough one with the aforementioned Nelson fresh off the IL facing Stephen Strasburg.
