While the hope had been that yesterday would be the breakout the Dodgers needed to get back on track, they can never really string anything together to snap out of this funk. And for Mother’s Day they gave fans a bag of shit in a 2-1 loss to the Angels.

Jose Quintana has struggled mightily this year, and it seemed like a perfect chance for the Dodgers to continue their momentum. However, they left the bases loaded in the 1st and failed to put anything together in the 2nd. The lineup did get a run on the 3rd following a one-out walk to Justin Turner and a two-out walk to Max Muncy that led to a Chris Taylor single to make it 1-0 before the threat died.
Quintana didn’t last long, throwing 97 pitches in four plus, but allowing just the single run.
Trevor Bauer worked out of minor trouble in the 1st, but the 3rd was a different story. After a single was erased by a caught stealing for the second out, Bauer allowed an infield single then issued back-to-back walks to load the bases, and Jared Walsh yanked a double down the line in right to plate two and make it 2-1 before Bauer was able to get out of it.
Despite that, Bauer rebounded by getting the last 10 batters in a row. He labored at times, which resulted in 113 pitches, but was able to be effective in the end: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 9 K, 113 Pitches.
The Dodger bats just couldn’t get even, though. Quintana started the 5th and allowed a lead-off double, but the reason he was charged with just the aforementioned one run was Aaron Slegers relieved him and prevented the runner from moving while getting the next three hitters. Slegers continued in the 6th, getting an out but also walking two batters. He gave way to Alex Claudio, who worked out of trouble. Tony Watson took over in the 7th and Mike Mayers got the 8th, both keeping the Dodgers quiet.
Victor Gonzalez got the 7th for the Dodgers, allowing an infield single but ending the scoreless frame with a strikeout. The 8th was Kenley Jansen‘s, and he gave up a single on a comically high pitch, and there was trouble after a stolen base and a throwing error, an intentional walk, and another stolen base, but he ended up striking out two in a scoreless frame.
That left the one-run deficit for the offense to make up against Raisel Iglesias in the 9th. With one out, Mookie Betts drew a walk and Corey Seager followed with a single to the opposite side to give hope.
Well, after a fly out and a ground out, the Dodgers were 2-for-20 with men on in the game and also were stuck with the loss.

The Dodgers have a day off tomorrow to drive back home, and they’ll welcome the Mariners for two games. They’ll start on Tuesday at 4:10 PM HST/7:10 PM PST/10:10 PM EST with Walker Buehler facing Justin Dunn.
