Trevor Bauer under investigation for assault

Trevor Bauer is under investigation for assault, first reported Tuesday night by TMZ.

From the report:

“(Bauer) is currently under investigation for assault … after a woman claims the Cy Young winner got physical with her earlier this year. But, sources close to the case say Bauer is adamant the encounter was nothing more than consensual, rough sex with someone he met online. We’re told they hooked up twice. TMZ Sports has learned the alleged victim was granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order earlier today in L.A.”

Bauer put out a statement via his agent Jon Fetterolf.

“‘Mr. Bauer had a brief and wholly consensual sexual relationship initiated by [the accuser] beginning in April 2021. We have messages that show [the accuser] repeatedly asking for ‘rough’ sexual encounters involving requests to be ‘choked out’ and slapped in the face.’ In both of their encounters, [the accuser] drove from San Diego to Mr. Bauer’s residence in Pasadena, Calif. where she went on to dictate what she wanted from him sexually and he did what was asked. Following each of her only two meetings with Mr. Bauer, [the accuser] spent the night and left without incident, continuing to message Mr. Bauer with friendly and flirtatious banter. In the days following their second and final encounter, [the accuser] shared photos of herself and indicated that she had sought medical care for a concussion. Mr. Bauer responded with concern and confusion, and [the accuser] was neither angry nor accusatory.'”

The Dodgers also put out a statement.

Statement: The #Dodgers were made aware of the allegations against Trevor Bauer late this afternoon and immediately contacted MLB, which will be handling this matter. The Dodgers take any allegations of this nature very seriously, but will have no further comment at this time."

You know my feelings about Bauer. These are serious allegations. Based on his history, this progression — criminal or not — isn’t surprising.

This goes beyond the surface, too.

The legal system does not account for grey areas with sex and if you can’t have rough sex without knowing when it’s no longer consensual, you shouldn’t have it. It’s negligent at best. Even if you’re innocent of rape charges, you’ve caused lasting damage to another person. (/2)

The idea of the perfect victim doesn’t exist. Whether the allegations are true or not, no one is happy with how this situation is playing out. It also shows that we, as a society, are far from perfect ourselves.

Criminal charges have not yet been filed.
