Rockies 4, Dodgers 0: Tyler Anderson continues to struggle after no-hit bid, lineup takes a day off

After a 5-1 start to their road trip and back-to-back series wins, the Dodgers started their series at Coors Field by seemingly just taking the day off in a 4-0 loss to the Rockies.

I’m not usually one to question effort or preparedness since it’s hard for fans to know, but man they looked like they were checked out today.

After struggling in his first start after being allowed to extent his pitch count for a no-hit bid, Tyler Anderson didn’t look sharp yet again.

The trouble started early as he clearly lacked his usual command. In the 1st, a double and a C.J. Cron single scored the game’s first run, and the 2nd continued the trend with a double and an Elias Diaz single for another run. Anderson then settled in a bit and had three scoreless innings, but that ended violently in the 6th, as he surrendered a single and then a no-doubt Jose Iglesias homer to push the lead to 4-0.

I know it’s Coors but the opposing lineup is quite frankly dogshit and they used him like batting practice: 6 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 96 Pitches.

Chad Kuhl is having the best year of his career while at Coors, posting a 3.95 ERA/4.21 FIP/4.16 xERA, but that fact should tell you that he hasn’t been very good in his career and that he’s still an average inning-eating type of pitcher at best.

Well that segues nicely into the fact that he spent tonight absolutely clowning on the supposedly vaunted Dodgers offense. If not for a Gavin Lux infield single in the 3rd, he would’ve been working on a perfect game through 6.1 innings. Hell, even with the single he faced the minimum as Lux got doubled up trying to advance on a fly out.

Ah, so you say, after 6.1 innings they finally got to him. No no, they got a Freddie Freeman fliner single and then made the next two outs to move things along. Kuhl then cruised through a clean 8th, but was put under threat for the first time all game when Gavin led the 9th off with a double. Well, all Kuhl did was get the next three to complete the shutout.

Absolutely destroyed by Chad Kuhl at Coors Field, lol. This is fine: 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 102 Pitches.

The Dodgers fall to 45-27 on the year and will remain 1.5 games up on the idle Padres in the NL West.

They’ll do it again tomorrow at 2:40 PM HT/5:40 PM PT/8:40 PM ET with Clayton Kershaw facing Kyle Freeland. Hopefully they’ll show up this time.
