After having their winning streak ended yesterday by the Royals, the Dodgers started their four-game series against the Brewers on the right foot with a 4-0 victory.
While Julio Urias didn’t really have his best stuff, he still managed to find a way to be effective, and the Dodgers offense put up enough help behind homers from Freddie Freeman and Gavin Lux.
======
The bats started things off quickly in the 1st against Freddy Peralta, though it was just through one swing of the bat from Freeman, his 16th homer of the year.
The celebrations are the best part, honestly.
But that was all they got off Peralta, thanks to him escaping a double and a pair of walks in the 4th by striking out Cody Bellinger with the bases loaded to end his day.
Thankfully, the Brewers pen allowed for some insurance runs. In the 5th, Mookie Betts reached on an error, Trea Turner singled to corner the runners, and a Will Smith sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 2-0.
That was a bit lucky, but nothing lucky about how they scored in the 6th, as Justin Turner was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Lux followed by drilling his sixth homer of the year the other way off a lefty sidearmer with two strikes to make it 4-0.
As mentioned in the intro, Julio wasn’t happy with how his pitches were going early and he wasn’t shy about showing it.
Yet he found a way to be effective, working around a walk and a single to start the game in the 1st, a single to start the 2nd, and a double and walk to start the 3rd. He also gave up a single in the 4th, and got his only 1-2-3 frame in the 5th to close out his outing (with help from JT).
It seemed like he buckled down when he needed to, and turning in this kind of effective outing when he didn’t have his best is a great sign of his progress: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 94 Pitches.
In relief of him was Chris Martin in the 6th, who was dominant, really. The only reason he was in trouble is because of a wild pitch/passed ball strikeout, though all that did was get him four in the frame.
The pen continued to cruise in the 7th and 8th behind perfect frames from Caleb Ferguson and Evan Phillips on 11 and 14 pitches, respectively.
To close the game out in the 9th, David Price entered and had a 1-2-3 frame of his own to make it 13 in a row retired (basically) to close the game for the relievers.

Mookie rules, man.
Hanser Alberto and Joey Gallo cutting it up.
