In a game highlighted by the glorious return of Dustin May, the Dodgers broke their alternating win/loss streak by taking their second in a row from the Marlins in a 7-0 win. They also take the series and haven’t lost one since July.

Going to start with Dustin May today because, well, really it’s all that matters. Surprisingly, things didn’t begin ideally, as he gave up a groundball single to his first batter and later loaded the bases with two outs after back-to-back walks. However, he got all three outs on the K and managed to escape the trouble.
From there? Oh he was absolutely locked in, going four perfect innings and punching out hitters left and right in an absolutely dominant showing. He retired his final 13 batters in a row and struck out nine on the day.
Incredibly impressive and it’s not hard to dream on what he could be by October: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K, 71 Pitches.
On the other side was 25-year-old Bryan Hoeing, making his MLB debut. He had a 5.44 ERA in AAA and got the Dodgers in his first start, so really things sort of went as expected.
A Trea Turner infield single in the 1st was followed by a Freddie Freeman single, and then Will Smith crushed his 18th dong of the year to make it 3-0 almost immediately.
The clean 2nd only provided a brief reprieve for Hoeing, as the 3rd began with back-to-back-to-back singles from Mookie Betts, Trea, and Freddie to plate a run.
All weakly-hit balls, so a bit unlucky for him, but what wasn’t unlucky was Justin Turner unloading on a ball for his ninth homer of the year, another three-run shot to make it 7-0.
Surprisingly that was it for the Dodgers. The Marlins pen started in the 4th and retired six in a row, then loaded the bases with one out in the 6th and no outs in the 7th, but escaped both times without allowing a run. A clean 8th inning made sure that seven runs was all the Dodgers got.
No matter.
First out of the pen for the Dodgers was Caleb Ferguson, who gave up just an infield single in the 6th. He was followed by Chris Martin‘s 1-2-3 frame, and then Phil Bickford closed out the final two innings, allowing just a single.
