In a rubber match of the series with a playoff-esque pitching matchup, the Dodgers fell to the Padres by a 6-1 score, as a pair of dingers and the bats getting shutdown painted a familiar story. Granted, the Dodgers did rest guys like Will Smith and Max Muncy, but still it was pretty lifeless.
After their streak of not losing a series in August, the Dodgers have now lost three of their last four series.

Ryan Pepiot has had an ideal start to his season so far, allowing just two runs in his four starts so far. Well, he doubled the runs allowed tonight, though it’s hard to be overly concerned given how he looked apart from that.
He gave up a solo shot to Juan Soto in the 1st and a three-run shot to Luis Campusano in the 4th, with both coming on 0-2 pitches that missed over the plate.

Aside from that, he really just faced one other threat after a lead-off double in the 5th, and the rest of his outing was relatively smooth.
Not good, obviously, but pretty whatever in the big picture: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 90 Pitches.

There’s not much else to recap cause Blake Snell basically shut the Dodgers down. Well, aside from Mookie Betts, who singled and stole second to start the game for the Dodgers, then walked and stole second with two outs in the 3rd. That was literally all he gave up in the game. Six shutout innings.
Unfortunately, the game got more out of hand, as Joe Kelly returned in the 7th by giving up two walks and two singles for two runs while only getting two outs. So it was 6-0 by the time Alex Vesia entered and ended that frame. He then continued in the 8th, getting a pair of strikeouts in a clean frame.
Shelby Miller then closed the game out with a pair of strikeouts of his own in a clean 9th.

On the other side, the Dodgers went scoreless in the 7th and 8th, but broke up the shutout in the 9th behind Kolten Wong‘s fourth homer of the year to make it 6-1.
That was where it ended. Welp.

After a day off tomorrow, the Dodgers will travel to Seattle for a series against the Mariners, thankfully starting at 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET. It’ll be another playoff-esque matchup in Bobby Miller and George Kirby.
