Ryu will face Alex Meyer (4.20 ERA, 3.95 FIP, 4.11 DRA), who has spent the season going back and forth between the Angels and their Triple-A affiliate. Meyer is a tall, lean power pitcher whose fastball has touched 100 MPH this year. Standing at a very nice 6’9″, Meyer cuts an imposing figure, and in 49.1 IP he has struck out batters an above-average 26.4% of the time. However, his walk rate this season of 14.6% well exceeds league average of 8.5%. In addition to his fastball, Meyer’s repertoire includes a curveball and a sinker, as well as a rarely-used changeup.

Meyer, a 27-year-old righty, was the first-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2011. He made his debut in 2015, with two relief appearances for the Minnesota Twins. He was traded to the Angels last season, and made a total of six starts between the two clubs. He has a career minor league ERA of 3.50 and a 1.32 WHIP across all levels.

It’s been five days since Corey Seager strained his hamstring, and he’s still not in the starting lineup (despite the Dodgers having the designated hitter option tonight). Per Dave Roberts via Bill Plunkett, “If not tomorrow then likely he’ll play Friday.” However, Yasiel Puig is back in right field, and Justin Turner is back at third base after both were out yesterday. Cody Bellinger will serve as designated hitter for the first time in his major league career.

Scott Kazmir‘s rehab seems to actually be progressing:

At this point, though, it’s still hard to imagine what sort of role could be waiting for Kazmir when he’s ready to return.
