Ohtani, Smith, Freddie, Mookie, Teoscar, and Glasnow to represent Dodgers in 2024 All-Star Game … and maybe a ball boy?

While Shohei Ohtani was voted in to start the 2024 All-Star Game as the DH, the fate of the rest of the potential All-Stars on the Dodgers was left up to other voting. Today, five more were named in C Will Smith, 1B Freddie Freeman, SS, Mookie Betts, OF Teoscar Hernandez, and SP Tyler Glasnow.

Dave Roberts broke the news to the guys after the game.

It will be the fourth All-Star appearance for Ohtani, second for Smith, eighth for Freeman, eighth for Betts, second for Teoscar, and first for Glasnow.

Most of the selections are without controversy and honestly just make common sense, as Ohtani is the NL MVP right now, Smith leads all catchers in WAR by a comfortable margin, Freeman is second in WAR at his position in the MLB, Betts is second at his position in WAR in the NL (despite the injury), and Glasnow is a top five starter in the NL due to being top three in xERA and top 10 in FIP despite his “elevated” 3.47 ERA (thanks to his last two starts). The one borderline selection is Teoscar, who is 10th in WAR among NL outfielders, but offense is more credible in the half season samples we’re talking about here, and the highlights he’s generated with the big moments he’s had so far this year probably helped him. Either way, after the injured guys drop out, he’d deserve to be a replacement there anyway.

On the other end, besides those guys, there aren’t really any borderline players on the Dodgers either. Yoshinobu Yamamoto probably makes it if he doesn’t get hurt, Max Muncy could’ve had a shot without injury, and maybe Gavin Stone is a dark horse, but really the team’s problems this year have come from the lack of bridge guys between the stars and the fringe of the roster.

In a fun little addition, a Dodgers ball boy named Sean Harris is up for nomination to do the All-Star Game as well.

You can vote for his play here.

Anyway, you can watch those six guys on Tuesday, July 16 in the actual All-Star Game, while you can watch prospects Thayron Liranzo and Jeral Perez in the Futures Game on Saturday, July 13. No word on any Dodgers in the Home Run Derby yet, but while Ohtani will not participate, Teoscar has expressed interest in swinging on Sunday, July 14. We shall see.
