Dodgers 10, Cubs 8: Shohei Ohtani creates the 47-47 club as Dodgers avoid a sweep in a wild one

While I’m still under the weather, I’m back for a winning recap, though it was a hell of an adventure to get there.

——-

The Dodgers offense got started early, exploding for five runs in the 1st, including slugging four homers. Shohei Ohtani hit his 47th to give him 47-47, and then Tommy Edman (3), Will Smith (18), and Max Muncy (14) went back-to-back-to-back

They then scored two more on an Ohtani single in the 3rd, after which he also stole his 48th base.

Seven runs is plenty under normal standards, but it wasn’t enough.

Bobby Miller gave most of those runs back, as he had another nightmare outing: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 90 Pitches.

Miller’s time concluded by giving up a three-run homer, and then Daniel Hudson gave up another run to tie the game at 7-7 in the 5th.

Fortunately, Gavin Lux came through in the 7th with a clutch single to give the Dodgers the lead back.

Then power demon Edman hit his fourth homer in two games (and fourth of the season) to give the Dodgers a 10-7 lead in the 8th.

After Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia, and Evan Phillips all contributed scoreless innings, it should’ve made things easy for Michael Kopech in the 9th, but he walked the bases loaded for some tension or something. However, a sac fly, a confusing caught stealing attempt, and a strikeout quickly ended any comeback attempt.

Phew.
