Angels @ Dodgers June 7, 2026: Betts, Pages and Smith out of the lineup with Sheehan looking for a sweep

The Dodgers (42-23) rode a huge first inning yesterday, scoring nine runs after Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a run in the top of the inning for a 9-2 victory. Yamamoto retired the last 22 batters he faced and got through eight with only four strikeouts and only 93 pitches thrown. Jack Dreyer did give up a solo shot to give the Angels their second run, but it’s been an otherwise-dominant series for the Dodger pitching. Nine runs is obviously great, but the Dodgers have still only scored in two of the 18 innings of this series and only managed one hit after the second inning last night. Still a big win, and still gives them a chance at a series and season sweep of the Angels.

Spring training ass lineup for the Dodgers. Will Smith remains out after being scratched yesterday with neck stiffness. Mookie Betts and Andy Pages both get the day off, with Miguel Rojas starting at short and Alex Call in center. The Angels official account hasn’t posted a lineup yet as they’re likely working through a roster move for Sam Aldegheri, but this does seem to be how they’ll line up.

Emmet Sheehan starts for the Dodgers coming off an unfortunate loss in Arizona last Monday. Sheehan only allowed one baserunner through five innings, but gave up a one-out homer to Tommy Troy in the sixth. Sheehan got through the sixth and got the first out of the seventh, but a Nolan Arenado homer ended his night and put the Diamondbacks up 2-1 as the offense was stymied by Eduardo Rodriguez and three Diamondback relievers. Sheehan missed the Angels earlier this season but did face them in Anaheim last season. It didn’t go well, as he allowed five runs and five hits over five innings in a 7-6 extra inning loss.

Jose Soriano goes for the Angels. He got off to an insane start this season, allowing one run over his first six starts. He had a couple bumpy starts before facing the Dodgers on May 15, where he had one of the weirder starts I’ve ever seen. Soriano only allowed one hit in 5 1/3 innings, but gave up six runs and issued six walks. The Dodgers started the game with a walk and a single off Soriano and scored a first inning run on a sac fly and didn’t do much else through five. Soriano got a groundout to start the sixth and then things fell all the way apart, as he walked two batters, hit a batter to load the bases and then walked two more runs in. He left the game with the bases loaded and Chase Silseth came in and hit the first batter he faced before giving up a two-run single for three more runs on Soriano’s line. Soriano’s coming off a similarly-wild start against Colorado, where he allowed two earned runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings but issued seven walks and hit two batters. Soriano’s walked three or more batters in eight of his 13 starts.
