The Dodgers (44-25) held on in the rubber match in Pittsburgh last night. It almost followed the same pattern as Wednesday night’s game with the Pirates erasing a five-run deficit to bring it within a run, but the Dodgers took advantage of some sloppy Pirate defense and after Edgardo Henriquez struggled in the eighth, Tanner Scott struck out the side in the ninth to hold on to an 8-6 win.
Today, the Dodgers head to the southside to open a series with the shockingly good White Sox. The White Sox had the second-worst record in baseball last season, but they’re 36-31 and with a win on Wednesday against Atlanta they took over first place in the AL Central. The Sox won both games they played against Atlanta and are a bit extra rested as yesterday’s finale was rained out. Andy Pages leads the Dodgers with 15 homers, but the White Sox have two players with 16 (old friend Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery) and Munetaka Murakami, who’s third in baseball with 20 homers despite being out since May 29 with a hamstring strain.

Roki Sasaki gets the ball coming off the best start of his young career. Sasaki threw seven shutout against the Angels last Friday with a career-high 10 strikeouts. Lefty Anthony Kay starts for the White Sox coming off a really rough start in Philly. Kay allowed six runs and seven hits in four innings and gave up a pair of homers. Kay had only allowed seven runs in 32 innings over six starts in May.
As promised, Chuckie Robinson gets the start behind the plate tonight hitting ninth. Shohei Ohtani is out of the lineup after leaving last night’s game with knee inflammation, so Alex Call leads off and Santiago Espinal serves as the DH, hitting eighth. For the White Sox, Vargas hits second and they have two Montgomery’s hitting fourth and fifth. Colson bats cleanup, and top prospect Braden Montgomery bats fifth in only his third Major League game. Braden had a memorable debut on Tuesday, hitting a walk-off extra inning homer against arguably the second-best closer in baseball this year in Raisel Iglesias.

Ohtani’s MRI came back clean and he’s expected to avoid the IL. Good thing the Dodgers didn’t say this exact thing like a week ago about Will Smith.
Shohei Ohtani had imaging done on his knee, Dave Roberts said. “It's just the normal wear and tear.” The swelling is in the back of his knee, but could be originating from elsewhere. “He feels fine-ish,” said Roberts, who hopes Ohtani will be back in the lineup this weekend.

They’re hoping he can DH at least one of the games in Chicago and is still expected to make his next start Wednesday in LA against Tampa.
Tommy Edman is on track to be activated for his 2026 debut on Tuesday. Blake Snell is throwing. He reportedly had the same loose bodies surgery as Tarik Skubal, who’s expected to start tomorrow for the Tigers only about five weeks post-surgery. Snell was placed on the 60-day IL so he still won’t be back until post-All Star, but here’s rooting for Skubal to be healthy before the Dodgers trade for him. Tyler Glasnow could also start playing catch soon after being shut down with back issues. He’s also on the 60-day, so he won’t be back until July 6 at the earliest.
