Yesterday’s game was rained out, so the Dodgers and Yankees play two today. The Dodgers (62-36) took the series opener on Friday behind the best start of Roki Sasaki‘s career and a Max Muncy two-run homer in the seventh inning for a 2-1 win. The Dodgers did continue some non-ideal trends from the end of the first half, as the offense was shut down by Gerrit Cole for most of the game and an Andy Pages error led to the lone Yankee run of the game, but the win snapped a three-game losing streak and now gives the Dodgers a chance at a series win with a win in one of the two games today.

Emmet Sheehan was originally slated to start yesterday’s game for the Dodgers, but he’s been pushed back to start the opener in Philly tomorrow. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was set to start today and will get the ball in the early game. Yamamoto’s looking to bounce back from one of the worst starts of his career against Arizona last Saturday. He danced around some trouble and only allowed one run over the first five innings, but things unraveled in the sixth. Yamamoto gave up five runs in the sixth on three hits, a walk and an intentional walk that preceded a James McCann three run homer. The six runs matched a career-worst for Yamamoto and it spoiled what was a very solid first half of the season.
The Yankees send Cam Schlittler to the mound against Yamamoto who, like Yamamoto, was originally scheduled to start Sunday as well. Schlittler’s been excellent so far this season, with an AL-leading 2.05 ERA and 137 strikeouts to only 25 walks in 118 2/3 innings over 20 starts. Schlittler’s allowed two or fewer earned runs in 16 of his 20 starts and had a sub-2.00 ERA for almost the entire first half before a rough start against the Tigers to finish off June. In that start, Schlittler allowed six runs in four innings and gave up four homers, three of which came in the first inning.
The usual nine in the lineup for the Dodgers for the first game, which probably means we’re about to see some lineup fuckery in the second game.

Not a ton of early-morning news pregame, but one potentially big piece of news regarding Shohei Ohtani.
Shohei Ohtani will not pitch Wednesday vs. PHI. Dodgers are being cautious with his knee recovery. They do not have a date for when he could make his next pitching start.

“We just want to continue to give (the knee) the best chance to get into a good spot,” Dave Roberts said.
Ohtani was originally set to make his next start on Wednesday, but that won’t happen. He’s out of the rotation for now as he looks to recover from a knee issue that plagued him for the latter part of the second half. He’s in the lineup DHing the first game of the doubleheader, but could be out of the lineup in the nightcap.

In minor league rehab news, Enrique Hernandez, Blake Snell and Edwin Diaz are all on the rehab trail.
Kiké made his first rehab appearance Friday with OKC and went 1-for-3 with a double, playing five innings at third base. Diaz pitched Friday night in Ontario and struck out two in a perfect inning, needing 13 pitches to retire the side in order. Snell started for OKC last night and had a very typically Snell start, striking out four of the six batters he faced but needing 32 pitches to record four outs.

First pitch is scheduled for 9:35 AM PT (morning, Chad) and will be on SportsNet LA. The second game of the doubleheader is at 4:20 PM PT and will be exclusively on NBC/Peacock.
