Dodgers @ Mets July 26, 2026: Sheehan goes for a sweep as Dodgers wrap up a strong east coast road trip in Queens

The Dodgers (67-38) held on for a 4-3 win in the second game against the Mets last night. Yoshinobu Yamamoto wasn’t exactly dominant, but held the Mets to a run over six innings and despite a rough Edgardo Henriquez outing, the bullpen held on just enough for the win. Today, the Dodgers look for a series and season sweep of the Mets and look to kick off the second half with a 7-2 road trip.

Emmet Sheehan gets the ball coming off one of the worst starts of his career in Philly. Sheehan allowed eight hits and six runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Phils with most of the damage coming in the second inning. Sheehan worked himself out of trouble in the first but gave up two singles, a double, a sac fly and a two run homer for a four-run second for the Phillies. He did get through five without allowing another run, but gave up a leadoff Brandon Marsh homer in the sixth and gave up a double before being pulled for Alex Vesia, who allowed the double to score on a Trea Turner homer. The six runs matched a season-high, but his other six-run outing did happen in only 3 1/3 innings against the Orioles.

Freddy Peralta starts for the Mets. The former Brewer ace has had a rough contract year with the Mets with a 5.01 ERA/4.51 FIP in 109 2/3 innings over 21 starts. Peralta was actually putting together a solid season through his first 13 starts with a 3.63 ERA, but has allowed more earned runs in his last seven starts (32) than his first 13 (29). Peralta didn’t allowe more than four runs in a game in those first 13 starts, but has done so four times in the last seven including allowing 10 in 2 2/3 innings against the Phillies last month. Peralta faced his former team in his first start after the break and struggled, giving up seven runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 in his Milwaukee homecoming. Peralta has a 3.29 ERA in eight career starts against the Dodgers, but 11 of the 15 runs he’s allowed in his career against the Dodgers have come in four starts over the last two seasons.

Another shockingly normal series finale lineup for the Dodgers with the only change coming behind the plate. Eliezer Alfonzo starts for Dalton Rushing in the day game after last night’s game.

No updates before I’m scheduling this so I can get coffee (have I mentioned I hate east coast games). Yesterday, the Dodgers said they’re expecting Enrique Hernandez back and active for the series opener against the Mariners on Tuesday and they expect Edwin Diaz back on Wednesday.
