The Dodgers dropped the finale of a nine-game road trip by losing to the Mets, 8-3, though they still had a successful 6-3 start to the second half. More than anything, I was just surprised they actually tried today.

Emmet Sheehan has had a rough go of late and things looked as bad as they could get to start today. A bloop double was followed by a pair of singles to make it 1-0 Mets early.

But thanks to the defense, that was almost literally it.
Sheehan rebounded by retiring the final three of that inning, stranding a lead-off hit batter in the 2nd, and two-out walks in the both the 3rd and 4th. He got his first clean inning in his final inning of the day in the 5th.

The velocity was down again, which is concerning, but he got results: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 87 Pitches.

On the other end was another struggling starter in Freddy Peralta, and the Dodgers managed to do some damage despite frustrating fans a bit.
They stranded a lead-off double in the 1st, only managing a two-out walk otherwise, and Peralta faced the minimum in the 2nd when Teoscar Hernandez just … didn’t run while stretching a single?
Thankfully, the Dodgers got going in the 3rd when Eliezer Alfonzo Jr. hit a double, Andy Pages drew a one-out walk, Freddie Freeman doubled for a run, and Max Muncy grounded out for another to take a 2-1 lead.

They continued to rally in the 4th, as Tommy Edman singled, Kyle Tucker reached on an error, and Teoscar singled to load things up. Somehow the only run they got out of that was a deflected comeback from Alfonzo to make it 3-1, as Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages had terrible at-bats to waste the chance.

That was it for Peralta, as the Mets pen got a clean frames in the 5th, 6th, and 7th in order.

The Dodgers pen started in the 6th and immediately relinquished the lead.
Jack Dreyer went walk, flyout, and walk before getting the hook, and then Evan Phillips immediately gave up a three-run homer to Tyrone Taylor on what was actually not a mistake. Regardless, it was 4-3 Mets before he got the final two outs of the frame.

Will Klein was another middle reliever who continued to struggle in the 7th. A walk, infield single, and passed ball on Dalton Rushing led to a run, then another walk and a homer to Marcus Semien made it 8-3 just like that.

Charlie Barnes, almost amusingly, cruised through a scoreless 8th with just a two-out walk.

To close the game, the Dodgers loaded the bases in the 8th, but continuing a series trend got nothing out of then. Then just a lead-off single in the 9th.

The Dodgers get a day off tomorrow as they travel home, where they’ll welcome in the Mariners for three starting at 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET. It’ll be Eric Lauer looking to stay undefeated against Luis Castillo.
