The Dodgers (67-39) kicked off the second half with a strong east coast road trip, taking two of three games in each of the three series’ against the Yankees, Phillies and Mets. They’re coming off their worst loss of the trip in the finale against the Mets, as the bullpen gave up seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings for an 8-3 loss.
Today, they return home to kick off a six-game interleague homestand starting with three against the Mariners (52-55). Seattle was a popular World Series pick headed into the season but have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league at three games under .500. They’re still only three games back of the first-place Rangers in the AL West, but it’s been a rough season for them. They’ve lost five of their last six games including losing three of four against the Rangers heading into this series.

Justin Wrobleski gets the ball coming off an All-Star appearance and a strong first start of the second half against the Phillies. Wrobo gave up a run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings and continued his strikeouts trending upward with seven strikeouts. He’s struck out 23 batters in his last three starts, which is a big improvement from early in the season (he struck out 22 in his first seven starts).
Luis Castillo goes for the Mariners in potentially his final start as a Mariner. Castillo’s seemingly likely to be moved before next Monday’s trade deadline but has struggled this season with a 4.85 ERA/4.37 FIP, which would both be the worst numbers of his 10-year career. Castillo did turn in his longest start of the season last time out, allowing three runs on four hits over seven innings against the Reds. Castillo currently has the lowest strikeout rate of his career (20.1 percent) and hasn’t struck out more than five batters in his last eight starts.

Enrique Hernandez is back with Alex Freeland getting optioned. Will Smith is back doing baseball activity, Tyler Glasnow could begin a rehab assignment soon. One thing Katie didn’t get, Blake Snell is scheduled for another rehab start tomorrow. He’s expected to go four innings and with injuries and without an off day until next Thursday, it’s possible that he returns to the rotation after that.
