The Dodgers go for the series win against the Brewers on Saturday evening at Dodger Stadium as Players Weekend continues. They’ll look to Ross “Chicken Strip” Stripling plus the bullpen to fill in for the injured Alex Wood. It’s Stripling’s first start for the Dodgers this year, and Dave Roberts said he will be stretched to about four innings and 55 pitches before the relief squad takes over.

Stripling has made 35 relief appearances for the Dodgers this year, going 3-4 with a 3.41 ERA and 3.16 FIP with 59 strikeouts in 58 innings (9.2 K/9). Stripling went 3-6 with a 4.52 ERA in 14 starts for the Dodgers in 2016. His last start was back on September 6 of last year against the D-backs. He picked up the win and allowed two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks in five innings.
Chicken Strip picked up his second save of the season last time out against Pittsburgh when he closed out the game in the bottom of the twelfth inning. He hasn’t pitched more than three innings this season for the Dodgers, so Roberts will have to have a short leash once Ross enters the fourth inning. The only time he has ever faced the Brewers in his career was in two consecutive relief appearances at Miller Park on June 3-4 when he pitched one inning in each game.
Zach “Bat Boy” Davies (14-7, 4.09 ERA, 4.40 FIP) goes for his 15th win of the season for the Brewers. Davies already bested the Dodgers once this year, pitching six scoreless innings against them at Miller Park on June 4. Interestingly enough, Davies has pitched better on the road this year (7-1, 2.33 ERA) than at home (7-6, 5.97 ERA). He’s put together a nice second half so far, going 4-3 with a 2.58 ERA in eight starts. The slim right-hander has only allowed two home runs during that span (52 1/3 innings).
Overall against the Dodgers, Davies is 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA in three career starts, including one start at Dodger Stadium back on June 17, 2016. The Dodgers squeaked out a 3-2 win against the Brew Crew in that game, but Davies only allowed one run on five hits in seven innings of work. Curtis Granderson, Corey Seager, Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner have all hit home runs off Davies in the past.
Speaking of Granderson, he will start in left field and bat cleanup for the Dodgers Saturday. Granderson has hit three home runs and seven walks in his first six games (30 plate appearances) with the Dodgers. Chase Utley, the Silver Fox, starts at first base giving Adrian Gonzalez some planned rest. Austin “Sam” Barnes is at second base, batting eighth.
