On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared and I are still in disbelief the Dodgers are going to play in the World Series. We are nervously excited.
First, we recap Game 5 of the NLCS, which couldn’t have gone any better. Enrique Hernandez hit three homers, Clayton Kershaw threw six innings of 1-run ball and the game was never in doubt.
It was a decisive series victory for the Dodgers and they absolutely deserve to be in the World Series. After so many years of just falling short, this team was strong enough to get there. Now, it’s time to finish the job.
We talk about the roster and what changes might be coming. Corey Seager will be back and Charlie Culberson has earned his way onto the World Series roster. The Dodgers could also take another pitcher in the form of Luis Avilan. Curtis Granderson and Kyle Farmer would be the players who get left off in this round. It should be about as strong as the team can be at this point in the season.
We also sneak in a short Arizona Fall League update. Yusniel Diaz is hitting well, and I think he’s going to have a monster 2018 season. Will Smith is also hitting well after missing a good portion of the season with a broken wrist. DJ Peters is struggling and actually not playing much, as is Matt Beaty. It’s entirely possible (probable) that they’re just gassed. The Dodgers also have some pitching prospects there, but none of them are anywhere near top-tier talents.
