With the series win already secured, the Dodgers went for the sweep tonight against the Diamondbacks and after some drama went on to secure it with a5-1 victory.

The offense faced Luke Weaver, who has the highest ERA in the league coming into the game. Things didn’t get better for him early, as the Dodgers scored two in the 1st. With one down Corey Seager singled, followed by Max Muncy singling off a glove at first base. Cody Bellinger followed by grounding to first in what seemed like a double play, but after tagging the bag, Christian Walker‘s throw blocked Nick Ahmed who missed it and allowed Seager to score to make it 1-0. Chris Taylor followed up with a single of his own to double the lead at 2-0.
Clayton Kershaw meanwhile didn’t have hihs best command, but his stuff was still there. He carried a no-hitter into the 6th, losing it on a two-out infield single, though the pitch count was too high for him to get it anyway. After he got out of that jam, his night was finished with six scoreless frames on just the one hit and three walks with a whopping eight strikeouts.
Unfortunately, the offense was quieted again, as after the 1st opposing pitcher Weaver really settled in and kept the bats quiet, so Kershaw left with just a 2-0 lead.
Dylan Floro relieved in the 7th but didn’t provide much. He issued a walk and then a single to put runners on the corners, but while he gave up a run on a grounder, he then rebounded with two fly outs to limit the damage to 2-1.
Thankfully AJ Pollock got that right back on the first pitch of the 7th, making it 3-1.
After Enrique Hernandez reached on an infield single that became an error that then became a single again, and Mookie Betts came through again with a single up the middle to push the lead to 4-1.
Blake Treinen entered with the breathing room in the 8th, who gave up an infield single and hit a batter to start, but wiggled out of trouble with a fly out and two ground outs.
The Dodgers then added to their lead in the 8th behind a Chris Taylor double, an infield single from Matt Beaty, and a single from Enrique to make it 5-1.
With Kenley Jansen resting, Jake McGee got the save chance. While he gave up a double, he also struck out three batters to secure the win.

29-10, man. A 120-win pace. The Padres lost, so the NL West lead is now 6 games. They are also 2.5 games up on the Rays for the best record in baseball.
