Josh and I are part of the consensus when it comes to the Top 5 in the system. It’s pretty clear that the quintet of Cartaya, Miller, Vargas, Stone and Busch are the Dodgers’ five best prospects and Cartaya is the unanimous No. 1 prospect in the system. After that, that’s when things can differ somewhat significantly.

Pages and Rushing were neck and neck for the next two spots, but they separated themselves from Nastrini, who could jump way up this list next year. Some were hot and cold on Pepiot, as he topped out at No. 5 and bottomed out at No. 13. If what has been reported in Spring Training about an improved breaking ball ends up panning out, we might have a little proverbial egg on our face. Frasso got a nice boost from BP and FanGraphs, while McDaniel and Law aren’t as sold on him, yet. He was No. 11 on our list.

The player who received the highest ranking who didn’t make the Top 15 is Jose Ramos. Law ranked him at No. 11. He opened some eyes during the World Baseball Classic for Panama, but he was also left unprotected for the Rule 5 Draft, and no team chose him. With a strong 2023, he could be a 40-man addition next winter.

It’s always interesting to see how we compare to the national folks. We agreed on nine of the Top 10 prospects in the system, and Josh and I both had the next five in our Top 15, and that’s in spite of Josh’s inexplicable hatred of Outman, whom he ranked at No. 19 while I had him at No. 9. Then again, I ranked De Paula at No. 22, while Josh had him at No. 12 (No. 17 overall), so maybe I’m the ding dong here.

Anyway, that’ll wrap up prospect ranking season. Stay tuned for Josh’s prospect updates here and on Twitter. It’s always tremendous content.
