Rockies @ Dodgers Sept. 28, 2014: Meaningless regular-season finale

Well, we made it. From the first two games in Australia, to the now-predictable early season struggles to a National League West division title for a second consecutive year, the Dodgers close out the regular season portion of their schedule against the Rockies.

As you can tell by the lineups, it seems both teams DGAF about this game. The Dodgers’ are the No. 2 seed in the NL and will face either the Pirates or Cardinals in the division series that begins on Friday. At press time, the Reds just took the lead on the Pirates on a Johnny Cueto RBI single (he can hit, too?!). They’re up 2-1. The Cardinals begin their final game against the Diamondbacks at the same time the Dodgers and Rockies begin. Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and friends won’t play long in this game. Zack Greinke is on a pitch limit, as he won’t start again until Saturday.

This is Juan Uribe‘s managerial debut, and he has constructed a pretty solid lineup, even if it’s going to change a bunch after the first few innings. The best part will be when he comes out to remove pitchers from the game. I’m sure he’ll do it as hilariously as possible. Let’s just hope he doesn’t call for bunts and doesn’t attempt to make double-switches. We’ve already dealt with that enough with Don Mattingly.

Onto some news:

Dee Gordon had an MRI on his hip. Thankfully, the injury doesn’t seem like it’s serious. He had a similar flare-up in June and missed few days.

Hyun-Jin Ryu threw a regular bullpen session and reported no ill effects. He could throw a simulated game (as Clayton Kershaw did today) soon and could be available for Game 3 of the NLDS. That would be a huge boost for the Dodgers.

It’s gonna be a long-ass week, but the real fun begins Friday.
